The Industrial Relations Officer of the Greater Accra branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Abbas Ibrahim Moro, has assured passengers and pedestrians that the union is striving to ensure an accident-free Christmas season this year because it has undertaken enough education with the drivers at the various lorry stations.
He said the union took upon itself the task of engaging the drivers on driving rules and regulations before the Christmas season approaches and it is to avoid any reckless and careless driving on the roads.
He assured patrons of public transport system that the GPTRU is working to remove all rickety vehicles on the roads as soon as possible.
According to him, though the Union lacks adequate task force staff to ensure decency and discipline among drivers and undertake thorough inspection on the vehicles at the various stations, the few trained ones on board would work hard to deliver on their mandate to ensure the safety of passengers.
“This time around, effective management and maintenance of the buses would be one of our supervision to avoid any unwanted accidents and loss of lives among citizens”, he noted.
Abbas Moro advised both drivers and passengers to avoid any form of recklessness on the road that would destroy lives. He also urged them to ensure their safety and celebrate the Christmas with joy and happiness.
