We won’t descend into the Gutters with Afenyo-Markin – Minority declares

“The reason is because we have a reputation to protect. I will ask the Hon. Afenyo-Markin to look at the Minority leadership. These are people who have gone through vetting; served as Deputy Ministers and Ministers. I pray he is able to go through that process..."

Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has fired back at Deputy Majority leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin for insinuating that the new Minority Leadership are not making use of their “thinking cups” for paying heed to a directive from the headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to approve of the President’s nominees for Ministerial appointments currently underway.

The Minority group led by their new leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, on February 20, 2023, before the commencement of the sitting of the Appointments Committee addressed the media in which they served notice that, they would not support the approval of the nominees in solidarity with the people who have called for a reduction in the number of Ministers.

In a counter press conference against the Minority position, the Deputy Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, questioned the rationale of the Minority to want to engage in the vetting process when they have already taken a position to disapprove of the nominees. He said the new Minority Leadership was working on the dictates of the party leadership and that means they are being controlled and not working independently.

“The new leadership they just announced is not the type of leadership with the ability to respect the constitution; that they have no thinking cups; they themselves would be acting on the dictates of the party headquarters.”

In a strongly worded statement delivered at a press conference in Parliament on Wednesday, February, 21, 2023, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, hit back at Afenyo-Markin when he indicated that “we will not descend into the gutters with the Hon. Afenyo-Markin.”
He dared him to attempt to go through a ministerial vetting process and see if he would be able to survive it.

“The reason is because we have a reputation to protect. I will ask the Hon. Afenyo-Markin to look at the Minority leadership. These are people who have gone through vetting; served as Deputy Ministers and Ministers. I pray he is able to go through that process. So, we won’t descend into the gutters with him,” he observed.
