We’ll defend our lands with the last drop of blood, if… Mankrodo of Bortianor

Reports reaching Todaygh.com indicate that there is tension in Bortianor – a farming community in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region.

The frightening situation follows the constant harassment and attacks meted out to innocent families and individual land developers in the area by hired weapon-wielding land-guards.

According to some residents, who are also victims of the land-guard attacks, they are often severely beaten by these ferocious land-guards.

Some of the victims said they have reported the unholy incidence to the police and other security agencies but nothing has been done on the part of the law, forcing agencies to save lives and properties.

The constant attacks on their lives and properties have informed the decision of the members of Solo-We in Bortianor to resolve to protect their lands, lives and properties against any individual, group or companies who are stealing their lands, and destroying properties with their last drop of blood.

Residents have blamed the Ghana Police Service for failing to deal with these recalcitrant land-guards who they alleged were hired by a company called Alrotech a situation which has rendered the police ineffective in dealing the land-guard menace in the area.

Narrating their ordeals in an interview with the media, the distraught Solo-We family and some affected land developers led by the Mankrodo of Bortianor, Nii Kojo Mensah I, stated that some top management members of Alrotech were alleged to have forcefully grabbed lands illegally.

Lamenting about the increase land-guards activities in Bortianor, Nii Mensah I said that these ‘notorious’ land-guards, who were hired by Alrotech, often seen around various building sites within lands located around the area, destroy working materials including cement bags and building blocks.

Nii Mensah I, who is also a victim of the land-guard attacks, indicated that these land-guards sometimes set ablaze structures and pull down buildings—some of them at lintel level.

The land-guards, he continued, also extort monies and seize mobile phones belonging to land developers and their workers at the various sites.

“These land-guards, who are working on the orders of Alrotech, sometimes carry away working tools including wheelbarrows, head pans, shovels amidst the destruction of bags of cement.

He also told journalists that some of the victims who are attacked sustain varied degrees of injuries as a result of the beatings they receive in the hands of the land-guards.

“Our lives and properties are currently in danger, and this continues to be our worry,” he bemoaned.

“For this reasons, we members of Solo-We family will from henceforth do anything within our powers to protect, defend and safeguard our inheritance (land) with the last drop of our blood”. He warned.
