The government will provide immediate assistance to the victims of the Kantamanto fire disaster, Vice-President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has promised.
The Vice-President visited the fire scene on Wednesday, 16 December 2020 hours after the disaster, which he described as a “tragedy.”

“It is a situation that makes us all very sad”, Dr Bawumia said, adding: “Their day-to-day means of living has been taken away by this fire”.
“The lives and the livelihood of the people cannot really await an investigation”, he observed, pointing out: “Those are more immediate and, so, we are going to be looking at how to provide assistance.”
The Vice-President has, thus, scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the Kantamanto market on Friday, 18 December 2020 to “look at how we can rebuild this market.”
According to him, the government will be exploring “some type of business support to these shop owners to be able to restart their businesses.”
