We’re ready to host 3rd African Media Convention – GJA

The third edition of the convention which is scheduled for May 15-17, 2024 at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) under the theme; “Freedom of Expression, Sustainable Development, and Environmental Crises” will discuss trends that impede freedom of expression and freedom of the media, media viability and sustainability, as well as the safety and security of journalists.

President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor has reiterated the association’s preparedness to host the third edition of the African Media Convention (AMC) in Accra.

The African Media Convention is currently the largest gathering of media stakeholders and policymakers in the continent.

AMC, an initiative of The African Editors’ Forum (TAEF) is designed to safeguard the hard-won media freedoms and safety of journalists on the continent.

The maiden edition of the Convention was held in Arusha, Tanzania, in 2022 and brought together media experts, scholars, students, journalists, journalists’ unions and associations, editors, public and private sector, including cooperating partners from around the African continent and beyond as well as representatives from UNESCO and the African Union Commission.

The third edition of the convention which is scheduled for May 15-17, 2024 at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) under the theme; “Freedom of Expression, Sustainable Development, and Environmental Crises” will discuss trends that impede freedom of expression and freedom of the media, media viability and sustainability, as well as the safety and security of journalists.

About 600 international delegates from 50 African countries are expected to participate, including delegates from the African Union Commission, civil society organizations (CSOs), the diplomatic corps, non-governmental organizations, researchers and academia, among others.

Winning the bid to host this year’s edition of the convention a year ago, president of GJA Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor during a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, April 30 said significant progress including acquisition of logistics personnel and other resources required to effectively host the convention.

“The GJA and the local Organizing Committee are confident to successfully host the largest media gathering on the continent. The LOC have also met with organizers and sub-committee chairs and I can assure you that all is set for the convention”, Mr. Dwumfuor stressed.

Additionally, the GJA president is urging all media houses, journalists and other partners in the country to register and participate in the event.
