The leader of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), Charles Kormi Kudzordzi alias Papavi Hogbedetor, has appealed to followers and “citizens of Western Togoland” to be peaceful amidst the Ghana government’s actions to prosecute its members.
He urged his followers to remain calm after some members of the HGSF were arrested for “unlawfully” declaring Western Togoland independent last Saturday .
“last week it came to pass (independence of Western Togoland), a declaration was staged. Yes, we mean it! and that, I am appealing to all of you, everyone to be peaceful – no declaration is staged without quarrel,” the octagenarian stated.
In a video message intercepted by ghananewsonline.com.gh, innocent looking Mr Kudzodzi cautioned the government of Ghana to use the right means to settle the issue concerning HSGF’s appeal for Western Togoland separation.
“I am telling the government of Ghana, that what [is happening] is not the right thing. Going around, arresting people on the streets…locking them up in cells, and more-so going to the houses of individuals [to arrest them will not solve the problem]” he stated.
He alleged that his aging wife has been arrested and detained by the Ghanaian authorities, all in an attempt to get him but added that such actions would not “solve the problem”.
According to the 80 year old leader, the HGSF is ready to amicably address the issue with government through “the right means”.
He said he will present himself to be interrogated and questioned by the authorities if he is properly summoned through his lawyers.
“If [the authorities want to come back] for the case to continue, they are free to do so, through my lawyers,” he noted while appealing to the international community to intervene in the situation, “to avoid mayhem”.
