If a tiger decides to walk with its claws hidden, it certainly doesn’t mean it has no claws . Exactly the case in Ghana today, where for the mere fact that, Ghanaians are naturally reserved people with their “fa ma nyame” spirit , to wit leave it to God, it’s making this Nana Addo and Bawumia government to think that Ghanaians have no teeth to bite. Our calm nature doesn’t mean that we can be pushed to our elastic limit without any fight back or resistance. Even the words of our national anthem entreat us to resist oppressor’s rule with all our will and might forevermore.
Against the will of Ghanaians, their Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei who declared the opposition then; NPP as winners over the ruling NDC (the party which appoints her as EC), which is a mark of impartiality was clandestinely plotted against and removed from office with some ghost petitioners and the president serving as a conveyor belt. This is something he hasn’t got the balls to do to others like his favorite Jean Mensah when similar petitions were tabled against her. Ghanaians talked, lamented and complained to no avail but as usual of them, they left it to God.
New persons who were linked to the ruling party were brought in, with some of them known to have openly served as patron for TESCON, the intellectual wing of the NPP on campus.
In fact anybody who attended Legon knows of how one of the deputies of the commission served as TESCON patron and yet an institution that is supposed to be a neutral arbiter in terms of our elections, is being runned by such a known party apparatchik, yet, Ghanaians remained calm.
The very register that brought the current president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo into office was changed by this same elements as against the will of Ghanaians with the excuse of adding more security features to make it robust. One of such security features were facial recognition which was also a mirage. BVDs that had nothing wrong with them,in fact, they were used for the district level elections which the commission themselves praised as having achieved 99 % success rate, was discarded and new ones bought at the expense of the poor Ghanaian tax payer as against the sound advice from likes of Imani Ghana and some other CSOs. As usual of us as Ghanaians, the silence was loud after the initial agitations.
For the first time, the election conducted by this carefully selected “regime protectors” as I call them supervised a by-election that led to the maiming of innocent citizens, turning breadwinners into permanent disables and dependents, glaring assault on the people’s representative, an MP was seen and the spillage of innocent bloods under the guidance of the very people we clothed and paid to protect us with the very guns and truncheons we bought for them using our taxes.
Their second assignment for the first time in the history of the fourth republic , seven (7) Ghanaians were gunned down and till date, not a single individual was held responsible for the dastardly act meanwhile, we have on our pay roll as part of our security architecture a Minister of defence, a minister of interior, national security minister and a national security coordinator, regional security coordinators just to mention a few of the national security architecture, paid with our taxes.
All these atrocities perpetuated against innocent Ghanaians, no one was held responsible for the above lapses. Yet still, Ghanaians decided to hold unto their nascent democracy through the adherence to the dictates of peace and tranquility.
It has become obvious, this Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia’s government has taken the leniency of Ghanaians to be their weak point and the forgiving nature, the “leave it to God” nature of Ghanaians for granted, reasons they can provoke us more by telling us that,if you don’t have a Ghana card which they are failing to provide, you can’t exercise your democratic right of electing those who you want to lead or govern your country Ghana.
The annoying part of it all is that, for two (2) years now people registered but can’t get their cards,if this is not the highest form of provocation then what is it?
People are at the verge of loosing their revered telecommunication numbers due to the negligence and incompetence of the so called men and women this government claim they have, if this is not provocative enough, then what will?
Yes, Ghanaians might be peace loving people, they might have been facing the highest form of hardship due to this government’s clueless policies and still remain calm, they might have been provoked to the highest level through the killing of their children and love ones, they might have exhausted their level of tolerance through their arrogant posturing but still remain committed to the peace of their country but certainly, they are not cowards.
Our forebears fought to secure this land for us, that blood still flows through our veins so, cowardice is not our trait reasons, this Nana Addo led government must stop pushing us, Ghanaians to a place where our patience can run out; for, when a fool wise up, there will be no hiding place for the so called wise men.
This electoral commissioner must leave us in peace,we as Ghanaians love our peace even in the midst of all these hardship and cluelessness.
They should not provoke us to a level where we cannot endure it anymore, in fact we are gradually tilting there, they should not plunge this country into chaos with their intransigence, they should listen to the words of wisdom from the former EC boss Dr Afari Gyan, other CSOs and prominent Ghanaians with whom the real power belong.
Ghana certainly does not belong to Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare. They must drop that “No Ghana card no Vote” nonsense because that time of “fa ma nyame” to wit leave it to God has passed.
If they failed to listen this time around, they should not blame any Ghanaian for their inability to take the provocations anymore for; there is a limit to what every individual can take.
They should be ready to be held responsible for any excess that will occur as a result of their provocations and their intransigence.
Enough is enough for; he who brings maggot infested firewood into his house must be ready to welcome lizards into his home. Peace is what we need in this country of our, let no selfish, self centered and non patriotic stomach driven regime protector ruin our progress in this our democratic experiment.
This country needs a rescue because we are sinking so fast in all spheres.
A word to the wise is enough.
