Anas charged me $150,000 to kill “number 12 exposé” – Kwesi Nyantakyi

“After the video came out, I asked for a refund and even the refund was done in pieces. Today, they would bring $20,000, and the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually I got everything back,”

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas charged him $150,000 in an attempt to kill the investigative piece titled “Number 12 exposé” released in June 2018.

The former GFA boss and other officials were caught undermining the integrity of the game in an investigative documentary by Anas.

The exposé at the time made headlines worldwide resulting in Kwesi Nyantakyi resigning from all his roles at the GFA, CAF and FIFA, and subsequently handed a lifetime ban from football-related activities, which was later reduced to 15 years.

However, after several years of staying silent, the former GFA boss in an interview on Accra-based Onua TV on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, revealed that Anas demanded an amount of $150,000 through his lawyers, to kill the investigative piece.

“Before the video was released, a former colleague at the GFA Exco, Adam Munkaila, took me to Anas’ lawyer, a certain Kwame Gyan, a lecturer at Legon. I met him at his residence around Westland and he told me Anas was his student and had informed him of my case so he needed $150,000 to kill the story but could only pay $100,000″.

‘I gave them $100,000, but they told me the amount was not enough and later went ahead to release the video,”

“After the video came out, I asked for a refund and even the refund was done in pieces. Today, they would bring $20,000, and the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually I got everything back,” he said.

Kwesi Nyantakyi is among some notable names seeking to contest in the NPP’s Ejisu parliamentary candidate election following the demise of the Member of Parliament of the area, John Kumah.
