Appointing Dominic Nitiwul as a Defence Minister is demeaning the Military – Prince Kofi Amoabeng

“It shouldn’t be about just you will have a sound sleep and all those things no, you can have both, I mean some  retired Generals are NPP sympathizers for sure so find someone who knows it like what Atta Mills said if the grounds are running” The retired captain reiterated.

Former military officer of the Ghanaian Armed Forces, Prince Kofi Amoabeng has lamented over politicization of the Army in Ghana particularly, the appointment of Defence Ministers.

According to him, the circumstances in which Defence Ministers have been appointed in recent times is demeaning the Military.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi TV on YouTube monitored by Elvisanokyenews.net, Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng (rtd) stated that Defence Minister should be a retired Army Officer because a retired Military Officer understand the system and can easily identify problem facing the military for the necessary solution.

The C0-Founder of defauct UT bank questioned the Military background of the current Defence Minister, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul.

“The current Minister of Defence, I don’t know him and I am not sure he has attended boy scouts before because there was no boy scout in his time and become the Minister of Defence and Ghana has International celebrated Generals. Every country that I know, the Minister of Defence is a retired Army Officer or Military Officer because you understand the system, you understand the troubles of the soldier, what they need and they put this young man there, what do you think the Generals are thinking? You are demeaning the Military” He said.

He understands that some of the appointments the politicians made in recent times clearly indicates that they don’t care about Ghana moving on.

Adding that the problem of appointing political affiliated people to certain positions in the country is a problem both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“This is a young man who has probable I don’t know what he has done before but that is beside the point I don’t know him so I don’t want to ridicule someone or anything but I am telling some of the appointment the politicians made is as if they don’t even care about Ghana moving on. And that is what the both parties (NDC, NPP) are doing, I don’t know whether it is political expedience for them because I am not a politician but at least the appointment should be our merit and experience, ability to perform for the people” He added.

According to him, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should have appointed a retired General who is an NPP sympathizer rather than someone who doesn’t have experience in the Army.

“It shouldn’t be about just you will have a sound sleep and all those things no, you can have both, I mean some  retired Generals are NPP sympathizers for sure so find someone who knows it like what Atta Mills said if the grounds are running” The retired captain reiterated.

The Minister for Defence is the Ghanaian government official responsible for the Ministry of Defence of Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces.

President Akufo-Addo appointed Hon. Dominic Nitiwul as the Minister of Defence since February 2017.
