Build up to the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s regional executives elections scheduled for May 27 to 29 May 2022, has been hit with suspected contract killings to eliminate some contestants.

Last Wednesday, Police on the Tamale – Walewale Highway arrested 3 gunmen who later confessed that they had been on their way to assassinate an opponent of one of the contestants in the North East Region.

The supposed assassins, Amadu Alhassan from Tamale, Atito Godstime, and Seidu Ado Bala both Nigerian Nationals were arrested at Kokubila on the highway.

A search on them revealed an AK 47 assault rifle, a pistol and several rounds of ammunition.

The Police had initially suspected them of armed robbery but they had vehemently denied being armed robbers, only to later buckle under questioning to confess that they were on assignment to kill the rival to one Alhaji Shani Mohammed Seidu.

This violent turn of events in the NPP is reportedly not an isolated case as insiders tell Whatsup News that the country may see a rise in assassinations and attempted assassinations as the party’s regional and national elections start.

Meanwhile, the suspects were sent to the Northern Regional Police Command for further investigation and later sent to Court which remanded them into custody.

In court, they said that Alhaji Seidu who is a contestant in the upcoming NPP regional executive election had contracted them to go and kill one of his opponents.

They further claimed that Alhaji Shani Mohammed Seidu provided them with the guns and ammunition to enable them to carry out the crime.

A bench warrant was issued by the Court for the immediate arrest of Alhaji Shani Mohammed Seidu to appear and answer questions related to the matter.

The suspects have since been remanded.
