Chiefs and people of Awudome-Avenui in Ho West of the Volta Region over the weekend, celebrated what they termed us ‘Ŋgɔyi zà’.
Ŋgɔyi zà is a development festival by the people in there and it is celebrated to raise funds towards various development projects aimed to better the lives of the people.
Dufiaga of Awudome-Avenui who doubled as a Senior Divisional Chief of Awudome Traditional Area, Tɔgbui Adzesi Dzaga VI, said that, festivals must be celebrated so that gains are made rather than to turn them into only merry making activities.
He said, as leaders of various communities, it was important for them to bring thier people together, initiate projects that will benefit the vulnerable.
“Ne mie dzibe mia yi ŋgɔgea, ke ehiã be mia de dzume dzradrado kple ŋgɔyi wɔnaeo eto me” he saiɖ in Ewe.
The community embarked upon several projects with varying degrees of success.
According to the Dufiaga, a six unit classroom block to house a Vocational School is 70% complete.
A twelve unit W/C lavatory is also estimated to have gotten to a little over 30% constructional stage.
He revealed that, DORCAS Widows project launched in May 2021, is a social intervention programme of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana aimed at equipping widows in the community with hand-on-skills in pastry, soap making and other consumable products.
These and other viable projects the Dufiaga told the media, would go a long way to benefit His subjects.
Chairman for the occasion, Dr. Martin Yamborigya mentioned that, citizens must endeavour to visit home regularly and subject development initiatives adding that, “there is a huge pride in doing that” he added.
Co-Chair, Nana Ofei Asamani, the Nkosouhene of Akwamu was impressed with the communities determination. He says that he shall continue to support all activities aimed at developing the area.
Chiefs from some other communities were present to Grace the occasion.
Distinguished citizens and personalities who contributed to the town’s development, youth organization and education, women’s growth, missionary work, political leadership and more.
Avenui is one of the seven main towns of Awudome with an estimated population of seven thousand (7,000) inhabitants. The population engages mainly in food crop cultivation. Avenui have huge arable land for large scale agricultural purposes.
