C/R: Ghanaians don’t take Wontumi serious in politics of intellectual discourse – Prof. Asiedu

Professor Asiedu made this comments in response to allegations made by Chairman Wontumi against the NDCs running mate, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman.

Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu, has rebuffed the relevance of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, Chairman Wontumi’s derogatory remarks targeted at the revered Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang should not be taken serious in the intellectual political discourse of the country.

He noted that Wontumi is on a calculated political mission to be relevant and seek attention from the NDC, adding that his barbarian nature will never receive response from the umbrella fraternity.

In an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB on the Yen Nsempa program on Onua FM, Prof. Asiedu reiterated that “Chairman Wontumi is not a viable participant for intellectual discussion. His level of discourse does not align with mine.

“When we are having intellectual discussions, Wontumi is not a viable participant. You don’t expect a Professor like me to engage in political discourse with him at that level,” he stated.

He mentioned Wontumi’s continuous attempts to grasp attention from the public in the name of politics, stating that despite Wontumi’s persistent move to score a mere political point, he remained resolute and focused on his political winning agenda of winning 20 parliamentary seats in the central region come December 7.

Professor Asiedu made this comments in response to allegations made by Chairman Wontumi against the NDCs running mate, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman.

Chairman Wontumi ignorantly questioned Opoku-Agyeman’s ethnicity and alleged a secret wedlock between her and former President John Dramani Mahama.

“I challenge Nana Opoku-Agyeman that she isn’t from the Central Region. She is from the Northern Region,” Wontumi claimed, further alleging a secret marriage between Opoku-Agyeman and Mahama in 2012.

In a rebuttal, Prof. Asiedu debunked such unwarranted allegations which was aimed at painting the image of NDC black and soiling the reputation of Prof. Jane ahead of the 2024 General Elections.

He noted that such palpable lies gives more hope and strengthen public support for the NDC, and its Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

“The NPP talks too much and speaks out of proportion,” Professor Asiedu remarked.

“Today, John Dramani Mahama is seen as a saint because everyone knows that lies were spoken about him in the past,” he added.
