CAAP-Ghana raises Awareness on Violence against Women and Children
Executive Director of CAAP-GHANA, Madam Comfort Tani Alhassan, noted that 16 days of activism is a global call for an end to all forms of violence against women and children.
Collective Action Against Poverty Ghana (CAAP-Ghana) – a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) has organized an awareness campaign on violence against women and children as part of 16 days of activism globally.
The theme for this year’s campaign was: “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls”.
Executive Director of CAAP-GHANA, Madam Comfort Tani Alhassan, noted that 16 days of activism is a global call for an end to all forms of violence against women and children.
She said CAAP-Ghana joins all human rights institutions, civil society organizations, women’s rights organizations and development partners in this campaign to increase public awareness and develop strategies to end all types of violence against women and girls.
According to her, in Ghana, violence against women and girls exists in the cultural and social space.
Madam Alhassan indicated that practices such as witchcraft, spouse battery, child marriage and child labour are prevalent in communities and more actions are needed from all stakeholders to ensure that women and girls live their lives free from violence, intimidation or coercion.
She also called on the government to put prioritize policies and laws that would create more opportunities for women empowerment especially in the rural areas.
She added that the country needs to invest in women’s health, girls education, women’s participation in governance and decision making and women’s access to finance and economic opportunities.
