ECG explains reasons for power outage in Kroboland

“Safety became a paramount issue and that necessitated the shut down.”

The Public Relations Officer for Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Tema Region, Sakyiwaa Mensah, has disclosed that the outage in Krobo is due to safety reasons.

A press statement released on Tuesday, August 2, almost a week after light-outs in the two Krobo municipalities – Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo – minced no words about the cause.

“Safety became a paramount issue and that necessitated the shut down.”

Ms Mensah says the entire ECG network is interlinked and since the Company was not sure of the integrity of the network and the extent of interference, that decision was taken.

The ECG PRO, however, promised power would be restored soon.

“It is hoped that power will be restored soon as stakeholders meet to discuss and seek resolutions, especially for safety of lives of ECG staff.”

Providers of essential services such as hospitals are on the verge of crippling down due to bearing generator and fuel costs, a situation, they indicate, can result into a possible public health emergency.
