ELECTION 2024: Break the Eight and Break Ghana or Keep The Eight and Save Ghana?

One wonders about the confidence with which the president, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, continues to boast and emphasize that the NDC will lose, despite his abysmal performance and destruction of the country’s economy and for that matter, the country. This posture is not only surprising but also provokes and stimulates a lot of thinking and enjoins one to seek answers to certain questions, including:

1. What is the source of the President’s confidence of NDC losing in 2024?
2. Has he succeeded in putting some rigging machinery in place?
3. Does that strengthen and support the highly skeptical view, widely held by Ghanaians about the Ghana Card, the SIM card control, recent changes in the National Security Service and the packing of the judiciary with pro-NPP judges?
4. Is that what is spurring the contemplation, machinations, secrecy in implementing the Representation of the People’s Amendment Act (ROPAA) among some people living abroad while excluding others?
5. Is the President desperate in and focused on winning the next election for his desired candidate (in this case Vice President Bawumiah) so that a lot of the rot in his administration will be covered up as opposed to fixing the country?
6. Could it be inferred from the above that a sizeable portion of what will come from the IMF will be channeled to the 2024 campaign (hoping to achieve this goal of breaking the 8) with just a small portion of the IMF ‘booty’ being put to judicious use just like what happened to the Covid-19 funds?

As readers reflect on, and wait, in desperate need to find answers to the above questions, suffice it to unearth a few things.

First, if the president truly and strongly believes what he is saying, which implies he has a very reliable reason to believe that the NDC will lose in the 2024 election, then there MUST be something Ghanaians do not know. One would expect that based on a very good performance in office, a leader would have the credibility to influence an election in favor of his chosen candidate legitimately. Unfortunately, this is not the case, Nana Addo has disappointingly proven to be the worst president Ghana has ever had, but, is still confident that he will win the 2024 election for his chosen candidate. Something else must be at stake (which is possibly diabolic).

This is why I think and feel that the ” DO OR DIE ” spirit should be awakened and kept to ensure that the unprecedented, calamitous, and undemocratic behavior of the electoral commission that brought president Nana Addo and his administration back to power again in 2020 does not recur – the deadly shootings before and during the elections, the elimination or disenfranchising of perceived pro-NDC regions from the election, the manipulation of election figures and the subsequent declaration of numerously different and inconsistent election figures!

This is important because the suffering that Ghanaians are going through right now is a direct result of what the electoral commission, in collaboration with the government, did.

Probably, the stealing of the 2020 election attracted God’s wrath whose anger has been vented on the Nana Addo’s administration with its consequences on the whole country.

It is that stolen election that allowed the canker of nepotism which characterized Nana Addo’s government (in his first term) to be perpetuated, and which is largely responsible for the current situation – consider how badly Ken Ofori Atta has performed and continues to perform. If Ken were to be from a different family, alas, he would have been shown the exit long ago. But as the president’s relative, he continues to be in office regardless of how his actions and in-actions are affecting the country.

Not only has that but also, considered the persistent corruption! “Corruption fight” in Nana Addo’s understanding, means “covering up or shielding all corrupt officials, keeping quiet over corrupt activities, sacking or fighting(directly or indirectly) anti-corruption fighters and crusaders like Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo, the immediate past auditor general, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the renowned investigative journalist, Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor and a chain of others.

What all these mean is that there needs to be a change of this government. Ghanaians rightly used the 2020 election to effect this change but for Jean Mensah and her cohorts!

Going forward, the biggest question is:

Do we need to “break the 8” and continue this canker, thus, continue to break Ghana? (as we are seeing currently) OR

Do we need a change, thus “keep the 8” and unbreak Ghana?

I am of the view that the latter must hold – keep the 8 and unbreak Ghana.

How is this achievable? The Do-or-die must be kept alive!

The only way to stop this kakistocracy is to make the 2024 election a “do-or -die” one, as was done in the 2020 election, and do it better this time around.

This though is the duty of all well-meaning Ghanaians, the NDC, as the main opposition party owes it a duty to demonstrate the resolve, the commitment and the lead from the ward level, through the constituency, the regional, and to the national level to ensure that that comes to fruition. In other words, curtail or truncate Nana Addo’s contemplated,(if not planted) hidden and dubious election-rigging mechanism to save Ghanaians who have put their trust in the party.

It is imperative, also, that minor opposition parties as well as all Ghanaians join and support the NDC as they lead this patriotic fight.

It is not an easy task, but with determination, unity, selflessness, patriotism, and resilience, 2024 will bury the “break the eight (8)” mantra and our beloved country, will be rescued forever.
