Ga Traditional Council to begin ban on noise-making May 6

The chief priest of the Ga Traditional Council, Nuumo Naaye also revealed that strict measures including confiscating of instruments would be applied adding that, individuals and organizations who would have their instruments seized would have a period of 90 days to approach leaders of the Ga Traditional Council as to the fine and other punishment they will be given.

The Ga Traditional Council, as part of preparations towards the annual Homowo festival, has announced that this year’s ban on noise-making will commence on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Announcing this year’s date at a press conference on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the president of the Ga-Dangbe Traditional Council, Ayikoi Otoo revealed that, “the ban encompasses all forms of noise-making including the use of loudspeakers, drums, tambourines, clapping of hands and any other musical instrument within the Ga state within the period”.

He added that the Ga Traditional Council is therefore urging individuals and residents within the Ga state to honour the month-long ban on drumming and noise-making and refrain from disparaging remarks regarding the customs practices and beliefs of the Ga people that will lead to disturbing the peace of the community.

Additionally, Ayikoi Otoo noted that the Council has established of a task force, in collaboration with REGSEC and various metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies, to collaborate with law enforcement and security agencies in enforcing the ban.
