Genital Disappearances: 9 Arrested For Publication of False News

“The Ghana Police Service notes with concern this increasing trend of persons making false claims of the disappearance of their genitals and blaming innocent bystanders that sometimes lead to mob attacks. We wish to caution the public against such criminal conduct that is likely to harm innocent people as well as disturb the public peace.”

The Police have arrested nine persons for intentionally peddling false information about the disappearance of male genitals.

Six of them were arrested in Kasoa in the Central Region, two in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region and one at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.

The police in a statement said five of them have been arraigned before court with three remanded into police custody while two have been granted bail.

Meanwhile, it said the remaining four are on police inquiry bail pending arraignment in the coming days.

The statement indicated that the false claims created fear among the populace and generated mob actions against innocent people who were accused of causing the disappearances of the genitals.

“Police investigations, including medical examinations, disclosed that all the claims are false.”

It added, “The Ghana Police Service notes with concern this increasing trend of persons making false claims of the disappearance of their genitals and blaming innocent bystanders that sometimes lead to mob attacks. We wish to caution the public against such criminal conduct that is likely to harm innocent people as well as disturb the public peace.”
