Transport Operators Announce New Fares
“We are therefore urging all Ghanaians to take note of the increment and cooperate with transport operators.”
Transport operators in the country have served notice for upward adjustments in fares effective April 13, 2024.
Passengers will now pay a 15% increment for short-distance or intra-city transport, 20% for intercity or long-journey transport and a 15% increment for the services of taxis.
A joint statement released by the operators said the move has been necessitated by the recent increment in the price of petroleum products at the pumps.
“Just as it may have been noted by most Ghanaians government appears to be indifferent regarding any reduction in the price of petrol as well as those of vehicle spare parts and lubricants.”
It said these factors coupled with the prevailing economic difficulties are worsening the living conditions of transport owners and drivers and thus the decision to transfer the burden on passengers.
“We are therefore urging all Ghanaians to take note of the increment and cooperate with transport operators.”
Petroleum products at the pump this month saw an increment. State-owned Oil Marketing Company, GOIL is selling petrol and diesel at GH¢14.15 per litre and GH¢14.74 per litre, respectively.
This followed the suspension of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy on petroleum products by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
