It blamed the negligence of some customers and the weak systems of some financial institutions for the fraud.

According to the report, impersonation caused a loss of GH¢10million and it mostly was due to the lack of due diligence on the part of bank staff and customers of financial institutions when carrying out transactions.

53.46% of total fraud cases involved staff of financial institutions and represents an increase from what was recorded in 2020. Suchlike staff fraud cases increased to 278, in 2021 from 253 in 2020, representing an increase of 9.88% year-on-year.

The report said Rural and Community Banks recorded the highest rate of staff involvement in fraud in 2021, with 46.04%; the Universal banks accounted for 28.06%, while the Savings and Loans companies accounted for 16.55%.
