Ghana Health Service convenes senior managers meeting to enhance healthcare
With a collective focus on continuous improvement and innovation, the Ghana Health Service is poised to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Ghanaian population and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all.
The Ghana Health Service has launched its three-day senior managers meeting for 2023 in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
Supported by its partners, the GHS aims to explore practical strategies for key actors in the health sector to implement policies that enhance quality and accessible healthcare for all citizens in Ghana.
Commencing on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, and scheduled to conclude on Thursday, April 18, 2024, the meeting is themed “Accelerating Towards Universal Health Coverage with Strengthened Primary Healthcare Through the Networks of Practice Approach.”
During the opening session, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, emphasized the need to assess past performance and improve the healthcare system.
He reiterated the commitment to achieving universal health coverage, acknowledging the ongoing challenges despite previous efforts.
In an interview with the media, Dr. Kumah Aboagye emphasized the challenges posed by the loss of skilled personnel within the Ghana Health Service.
Stating that, “We’ve suffered with the brain drain, but looking at the numbers, in terms of absolute numbers we are not affected.
He continued, “We have lost experienced people, we have lost some skilled staff, but we have also put in place measures to ensure that within a few years, we are able to replace them.
“These measures encompass further training for existing staff, bolstered recruitment efforts to bring in more nurses, and initiatives to deploy doctors to underserved rural areas.”
Dr. Kumah Aboagye reiterated the importance of these strategies in sustaining and enhancing healthcare delivery across the country.
Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, also emphasized the importance of empathy and professionalism among health practitioners.
He urged them to prioritize the well-being of patients and maintain high standards to garner public trust and support.
Additionally, he highlighted the significance of positive attitudes in the workplace for effective healthcare delivery.
The Ghana Health Service has celebrated numerous successes in the year 2023 and remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving universal health coverage.
As they reflect on their achievements, they are also looking ahead to the current year and subsequent ones with a determination to address areas where they may have fallen short.
The event brought together senior staff from all regions of Ghana, fostering collaboration and exchange of ideas to further strengthen the healthcare system nationwide.
