Ghana’s elections getting better – Egyapa Mercer

Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has noted that despite some of the challenges that are associated with Ghana’s electoral system, elections are getting better in the country.

He explained that occasionally, the country would experience some overzealous persons reacting to electoral issues in a manner that is unacceptable.

However, generally, the country has experienced growth in its sections, he said.

The Deputy Minister of Energy was reacting to concerns raised by Adaklu Lawmaker, Kwame Agbodza who said on the New Day show with Johnnie Hughes on TV3, Monday June 6 that Ghana’s elections have witnessed so many violence lately.

Mr Agbodza believed that happenings relating to elections in Ghana at the moment are worst than during the military era. He defended the June 4 uprising and said “the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council vision was better than Akufo-Addo Addo’s vision.”

But Andrew Egyapa Mercer said “as a country we are getting better with our election.”

He further explained that occasionally “you get people who are over zealous in responding to situations…those people ought to account.

He stated that the level of electoral growth witnessed in the country cannot be swept under the carpet.
