Ketu South Municipal Hospital Expands  

Physiotherapy Center Refurbished to Better Serve Patients

In a bid to achieve Universal Health Coverage, the Ketu South Municipal Hospital has recently undergone an expansion and the refurbishment of its physiotherapy center.

This expansion aims to improve the quality of health care services provided to patients requiring physiotherapy by the Hospital.

The upgraded center now has improved equipment and facilities, allowing for a wider range of treatments and therapies.

The expansion also includes the addition of more qualified and experienced physiotherapists to meet the growing demand for these services.

At the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, October 24, the medical superintendent Dr. Alphonse Makafui Dzakpasu said it has become necessary to expand their services to cover the large populations that depend on the facility. ” Ketu South is one of the biggest municipalities in the Volta Region with a population of 251,000, and as our data shows, there was a 50% increment in 2021-2022 and as of 18th October this year there is another 50% increment” he added.

Patients in the Ketu South Municipality and beyond who require physiotherapy can now access these services conveniently and closer to home because the hospital physiotherapy unit can offer these enhanced services which will save cost and time.

Mr. Enoch Addai who read a speech on behalf of the Municipal Health Director said “Communities like Keta, Akatsi, Dzodze, and its environs can also benefit from the center.”

Ketu South Municipal Hospital Expands  

Ms Yorska Abigail Jato, the new physiotherapist at the center said they now have equipment like treatment tables which are adjustable tables used for various therapeutic exercises and manual therapy techniques. Exercise equipment such as resistance bands, weights, balance boards, and stability balls, which are used to improve strength, flexibility, and balance are also now in the refurbished facility. Heat and cold therapy equipment which includes hot packs, cold packs, and whirlpool baths, which are used to apply heat or cold to specific areas of the body for pain relief and to reduce swelling and assistive devices which include crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs, which are used to assist patients with mobility and independence during their rehabilitation process are many equipment that are now available for use by patients.

Some patients who spoke with Ghananewsonline.com.gh said, they will encourage anyone who needs the assistance or service of physiotherapy should make use of the center because they have started seeing improvement in their movement.

The Volta regional director of health, Dr Chrysantus Kubio lauded the great infrastructure achievement of the hospital in recent years.
