Ketu South: Security Council Sets Up Committee to Examine Operations of Seven Sea Salt Company

Municipal Chief Executive, Maxwell Kofi Lugudor, in an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh on the issue said, there was the need to avoid all these unfortunate happenings at both sides, - the company and the communities within it's catchment areas.

Ketu South Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has constituted a working committee to look into the activities of salt mining company – Seven Seas Limited.

This follows a temporary ban on economic activities including fishing and other human activities in the Adafienu concession of the Denu-Torkor lagoon on the back of the drowning of a middle aged woman close to the dykes constructed by the company at Laklevikope.

Municipal Chief Executive, Maxwell Kofi Lugudor, in an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh on the issue said, there was the need to avoid all these unfortunate happenings at both sides, – the company and the communities within it’s catchment areas.

He believes that if the right approach is used in handling “these issues, the better it would be for the community and the company – it will also prevent these incidents from happening going forward,” he said.

The MCE advised the working committee to do it’s work only in the interest of developing the Ketu South Municipality and submit it’s report for a strategic plan to find a permanent solution to the issue.

The working Committee is made up of the representatives of the Security Services, the Unit Committees of various electoral areas, Political Party leaders, Assembly Members, Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Representatives from Seven Seas and other Stakeholders.

Public Relations manager of Seven Seas – Adams said the company has halted the pumping of the sea water to it’s Adafienu Concession and the Tokor lagoon to enable the water to dry before the rains comes this year.

“For us to know the depth of the dykes and the water levels to aid thorough assessment on the dykes and enable us fill them back the holes dug in dykes by the people within the community for fishing traps resulting in the spread of water to unwanted places in and around the concessions”.
