Kotoko’s struggles blamed on injuries

“Our season has really been hampered by injuries, almost every single player at Kotoko has faced an injury or two. A lot of factors lead to this injury situation in our league, sometimes the quality of the pitches we use, let’s be frank with ourselves, these are injury-prone pitches because ideally, the pitches need to be watered before games because some of the pitches are very hard, Muntari even complained,”

Asante Kotoko Communications and Brands Manager David Obeng Nyarko says injuries are the main reason for the team’s poor performance this season.

With eight games left in the Ghana Premier League, Kotoko are currently six points behind league leaders Aduana Stars and are out of the FA Cup.

Several players, including Justice Blay, Rashid Nortey, Dickson Afoakwa, and Yussif Mubarik, are currently injured and are unable to play. These players have made important contributions to the club this season, and their absence has had a significant impact on the team’s performance.

“Our season has really been hampered by injuries, almost every single player at Kotoko has faced an injury or two. A lot of factors lead to this injury situation in our league, sometimes the quality of the pitches we use, let’s be frank with ourselves, these are injury-prone pitches because ideally, the pitches need to be watered before games because some of the pitches are very hard, Muntari even complained,” Nyarko said to Sompa FM.

He also highlighted the expensive measures the team takes to prevent injuries, saying that their medical team resorts to taping players in every game, which costs almost GHC 5000 per game. “In fact, injuries have really worried us,” he added.

Kotoko suffered a 3-0 defeat to Berekum Chelsea last week and will need a strong performance against Aduana Stars to get their campaign back on track.
