Mahama criticises gov’t over lack of development in newly created regions

“I can assure you that not only for Savannah Region but for all the six newly created regions if NDC comes into power, the things that you need to be called regions, we will make sure that we provide them.”

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has chastised the government for failing to provide infrastructure for the six newly created regions in the country.

According to Mr. Mahama, the newly created regions by the Akufo-Addo administration only exist in name.

Speaking at a meeting with traditional authorities at the Jakpa Palace, he vowed to provide all the new regions with development projects, while expressing his disappointment in the government’s abandonment of the Damomgo Water Project.

“It is easy to create a region but the region must have certain things to be called a region. The six regions that were created, they were created just in name but the things that should go so when you enter the region you know this is a region, are still not there.

“I can assure you that not only for Savannah Region but for all the six newly created regions if NDC comes into power, the things that you need to be called regions, we will make sure that we provide them.”

He stressed the importance of concrete development programs in these areas and reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to advancing their advancement should he be given the chance to lead.
