“Mahama’s economy was suffocating”- Finance Minister

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta says the previous economy was suffocating.

Presenting the nation’s budget for 2020, the first full year in four without the IMF looking over the government’s shoulder to Parliament on Wednesday, November 13, he said the current government has delivered on its flagship programs.

“The economy before President Akufo-Addo was suffocating, businesses were working to pay utility bills, the banks were not doing well, unemployment was high and businesses were not doing well.”

“We have achieved significant structural changes for the economy. We have delivered on our flagship programs.”

He said, “2019 has been a very good year for the country,” adding that, “government has stabilised macroeconomic turbulence.”

He expressed hope that Ghana will become a financial hub in West Africa.

“Work is progressing on making Ghana the regional financial hub in West Africa.”
