Misuse of public funds by gov’t officials deteriorate country’s development – Dormaahene
He bemoaned how people in Ghana are engulfed in fear and panic ahead of elections, emphasising that the electoral commission must ensure that people follow the cardinal principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections, and that nothing that violates the standards of peaceful elections is tolerated.
The Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Council, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, who is also the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, has expressed concern about the Auditor-General’s frequent reports of leaks and waste of public funds, as well as the government’s lack of clear action to address the issue.
Welcoming Madam Hariett Thompson, the UK’s High Commissioner to Ghana, to his palace, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, questioned whether the country’s political leadership uses the taxes we collect and the support we receive wisely, noting that the auditor general’s report always highlights a series of public fund leakages that should have improved citizens’ lives.
Osagyefo Agyemang Badu Il, as a result, urged the government to embrace criticisms rather than dismiss them in order to guide its resolve to deal decisively with the country’s issues.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, expressed appreciation to Madam Thompson for actively engaging political parties and other major stakeholders ahead of the general election to promote peaceful, free, transparent, and fair elections devoid of violence, acrimony, and intimidation.

On her part, Madam Thompson assured that the trade, business, and investments section of the High Commission would explore possibilities of bringing in private investment to boost poultry farming and cashew businesses in the Dormaa enclave.
She said the UK has been offering major support to the people of Bono, Bono East, and the Ahafo regions, so the bilateral agreement between Ghana and the UK will continue to be deepened to ensure peaceful coexistence and the growth of Ghana.
