MP for Atiwa East supports Muslims and the Needy in Zongo Communities
Member of Parliament for the Atiwa East constituency, Mrs Abena Osei Asare has extended support to Muslims in the various Zongo Communities within her constituency. The support was to enable them have a well deserved feast (Eidr Fitr) after succesful 30 days fasting and prayers (Ramadan).
The lawmaker who is also a Deputy Minister for Finance also provided a special package for the needy in the various Zongo Communities she visited on Saturday and Sunday May 23rd to 24th 2020. The areas include Ayinam, Nanapa, Jejeti, Enyiresi, Akyem Awerensua, Akyem Sekyere, Osoroase Krobomu, Akyem Ankaase, Tiawia, Kedewaso and Akutuase where bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of canned fishes, facemasks and hand sanitizers, among others were given out.
She used the opportunity to advise the beneficiaries to regularly wash their hands with soap under running water for at least 20 seconds and apply the hand sanitizers more frequently so as to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
She advised the constituents to stay at home if they have nothing to do in town, same with traveling outside the constituency. She further advice them to observe physical and social distancing as was observed during the donation excercise.
“You need to put on your facemask and heed to the advice of President Nana Akufo-Addo by eating plantain, dawadawa and home grown food stuffs that has nutritious nutrient to strength your body in the outbreak of COVID-19 period,” she admonished.
She further appealed to Muslims in the Zongo communities to take COVID-19 serious as it is closer to them now following news reports that some people at Nkwakwa have tested positive for the virus.
“We do not have the disease with us in Atiwa East, let us help government’s effort in reducing the spread of the disease by observing the protocols,” she added.
On behalf of the President and herself she thanked Muslims in her constituency for praying for mother Ghana.
The Deputy Finance Minister also told her constituents that the reason Ghana has not witnessed a lot of deaths as is the situation in the develop countries is due to the measures that the current government has put in place to curb the spread of the disease.
“People in Awerensua Community you see your road is being tared, eight years ago we had a government in the nation that told you your roads were going to be tared, it did not happen, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo we put in the budget and you can see the work going on,” she stated.
The Chief Imam of Akyem Osoroase, Sakaria Mohammed, thanked the MP for her non discriminational policies and seeking the welfare of all in the constituency.
“If not the New Patriotic Party government I would not have dreamt of going to the holy land, today I am Alhaji and my people in the Community are happy about this and the MP has managed to turn the whole Community into NPP. We need a polling station here so that when we cast our ballot you know where we belong,” he stated.
He further pointed out that with the ripping off of their roofs the MP came to their aid and also brought mat to aid them in their prayers, further noting that Allah will not forgive them if they turn their backs on the MP after the assistance she has given them.
