Upper East Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo, has chided the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly trying to sabotage the Multipurpose Dam and Irrigation Project (PMDIP).

He asserted that, the NDC’s counter claims to the establishment of the PMDIP are frivolous and deserves to be rubbished by the people.

“The NDC also claims that the cost of the PMDIP is too exorbitant. Whiles Hon. John Jinapor, another member of the Finance Committee who refused to attend the meeting, claims that it is inflated by US$150 million, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini says it is inflated by US$55 million. The pertinent question to ask is which of the two figures is correct?”

“When the Finance Committee presented its report to the plenary for debate and approval the NDC minority in parliament then raised the issue of cost.. They want to sabotage this Game Changing PMDIP for their selfish and myopic political interest.” He added.

He mentioned that , the Akufo-Addo led government is working procedurally, to ensure economic use of money on the project, so that the public purse is not exploited.

“It is significant to note that the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has approved the contract sum and Value for Money Audit (VMA) will be conducted to ensure that the good people of Ghana are not short changed.”

Speaking at a press conference, recently in Bolgatanga, the regional chairman alleged that the NDC, during their tenure in power diverted funds to used for the PMDIP, hence should rather apologize to the people for delay in its actualization.

“We have had the bitter experience of the NDC diverting funds meant for the PMDIP and if they would not apologise to these two regions and in fact the entire country for their “sins’ in 2009 against the people”.

He therefore urged the people to vote for the NPP in the upcoming general elections, to ensure continuity of developmental projects.
