NPP opens nominations for Ejisu parliamentary candidate elections

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for individuals who wish to contest in the Ejisu parliamentary candidate elections scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024, to represent the party in the upcoming by-election in the constituency.

The Ejisu parliamentary seat has been vacant as a result of the passing of its Member of Parliament, Dr. John Kumah on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Dr. John Kumah’s sudden death per the 1992 constitution gives the Electoral Commission the mandate to hold a by-election to elect a representative for the constituency.

Announcing the party’s timelines and guidelines towards the elections, the NPP in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced a three-day window, from Tuesday, April 2 to Thursday, April 4, 2024, during which aspirants may purchase and file nominations at the constituency party office.

The statement further revealed that “an aspiring parliamentary candidate shall procure Nomination Forms after the payment of a non-refundable application fee of GHȼ3,000 in bankers draft in favour of the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra while to successfully file the nomination, an aspiring parliamentary candidate shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of GHȼ35, 000, also in bankers draft in favour of the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra”.

However, the statement also noted that women, youth (persons aged between 18 and 40 years), and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) will enjoy a 50% rebate on the filing fees and, thus will be required to pay a non-refundable filing fee of GHȼ17,500.

Other members of the committee are Hon. Patricia Appiagyei and Madam Martha Kodua, Chairperson of the Constituency Council of Elders; and all Constituency Executives (Ex-officio members)

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) is yet to announce a date for the Ejisu constituency by-elections.
