NRSA laments weekend’s road carnage

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has described as alarming the number of lives lost over the weekend in road accidents.
At least 17 persons died in multiple road accidents over the past weekend.
On Sunday dawn, at Asuboi in the Eastern Region, nine persons lost their lives. Out of these, two were students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the Central Region.
In the Ashanti Region alone, according to Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, over 30 persons have perished in road accidents in less than 3 months.
Speaking on Akoma FM‘s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Monday, March 14, Communications Director for the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) Pearl Adusu Gyasi revealed that 17 persons lost their lives to road accidents over the weekend, a situation she explained as unacceptable and bad for the country.
She told host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin that “including that of the UEW students, there were other accidents on the Kumasi-Sunyani road, so I will plead with drivers to take their time when driving to ensure safe arrival because the trend with which people are dying on our roads is alarming”.
Madam Pearl Adusu further explained that “the Road Safety Authority is intensifying campaigns at various vantage points to sensitize and educate road users on the need to ensure safety on our roads to reduce the increasing carnage on our roads”.
