OGS Foundation Supports Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf

Omini Global Solutions Foundation (OGS Foundation) has donated toiletries, food items and cash to the Tetteh Ocloo State School for the Deaf in Accra. This forms part of the organization’s efforts at supporting persons with disability in Ghana and beyond. The donation worth about GHC10,000 was to enhance proper promotion of the healthcare and wellbeing of learners and teachers of the school.

In an exclusive interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh, a daughter of the founding father of the school, Jonelle Tetteh Ocloo said some families and friends who visited the school in 2022 to celebrate the 90th birthday of her father – Dr. Seth Tetteh Ocloo, realized that the school needed massive support to make the desired impact in the lives of the learners. She indicated that, the OGS Foundation was established and registered by the family together with some friends, as a charity in the United State of America to support the disability community in Ghana starting with the Tetteh Ocloo State School of the Deaf.

She singled out Mr. John Dey – an employee of the Boeing Company of America for his generous donation whiles extending appreciation to over thirty other donors who have supported the philanthropic works of the foundation over the period. According to her, Mr Day promised to double whatever amount they are able to generate and he did exactly that which was what enabled them do a successful presentation to the school.

She also indicated that her team will be meeting with the Board of Trustees of the school to understand some other needs of the school and how the foundation can help improve teaching and learning in the school, among others.

Madam Jonelle Tetteh Ocloo also mentioned that, last year, the foundation with collaboration from the Ga-Dangme Association of Carolinas has equipped and continues equip the school’s clinic with the necessary medications to ensure that the learners continue to live in good health at all times. She further affirmed the commitment of her family, especially her mother, Mrs Elizabeth Tetteh Ocloo who was also the first headmistress of the school to improving the total wellbeing of staff and learners of the school.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, the headmaster, Mr. Isaac Arthur, expressed gratitude to the Tetteh Ocloo family for their continues support of the school. He called on other philanthropists to emulate the gesture. He explained that government has been supportive in the provision of infrastructure and other needs of the school.

Mr. Arthur said the school currently has a population of about 330 learners from Kindergarten to the Junior High School (JHS) and that the introduction of a vocational training centre was a major step in equipping the students with handy skills as they study for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He called on other individuals, religious and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO)  to continue to support the school for the desired educational outcomes.
