Osei Kyei Mensah voluntarily stepped down- NPP clarifies

“He was not ousted. You notice that he voluntarily stepped down from his position. Now he is taking another important position. Now he is the Chairman of NPP’s manifesto committee, and again, he will still be the minister in charge of parliamentary affairs so for us that is Okay.

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has shot down allegations that former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu was forced to resign from his position.

He made this clarification after an emergency meeting by the NPP on Friday, February 23, 2024, to confirm Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin as the new majority leader following the resignation of Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

The minority had earlier this week suggested that the NPP had forced the Suame MP out of his position.

However, the NPP National Organizer, has clarified that the former majority leader stepped down out of his own will.

“He was not ousted. You notice that he voluntarily stepped down from his position. Now he is taking another important position. Now he is the Chairman of NPP’s manifesto committee, and again, he will still be the minister in charge of parliamentary affairs so for us that is Okay. It’s a new mandate, I mean, change is good, we have consensus building on this particular matter and he’s still there.

“For us, he served the country well, he served parliament very well, he served the party very well, and he will continue to do so,” he added.

Osei Kyei Mensah will still play a key role in the party, as he has been confirmed as the chairman of the NPP Manifesto Committee.
