A Senior Lecturer at the Biostatistics Department of the University of Ghana, Dr. Justice Moses Aheto, has underlined the need for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to invest in its Research Desk to increase the fortunes and progress of the party in future elections.

He said this during a virtual meeting organized by a deputy director of elections for the NDC in the Dome Kwabenya constituency, Comrade Albert Aheto, under the auspices of a Pro NDC group, Rejuvenated NDC Hub. The event was chaired by Comrade Juliet Addison Sackey – a diehard NDC Activist based in the USA.

The meeting was on the theme “The Role of Rejuvenated NDC Hub in Making The NDC Extremely Attractive For The 2024 Elections”.

Beginning his remarks with the saying “if you can’t measure, you can’t manage”, Dr. Aheto emphasized the relevance of research to the party’s fortunes and survival saying no political party can move forward without a robust research department manned by seasoned and professional researchers with the required resources needed to deliver results in a timely manner.

He decried the current state of the party’s Research Desk and called for more to be done to rejuvenate and position the NDC well ahead of its opponents. Dr. Aheto was the Lead Statistician who assisted the party after its disputed defeat in the 2020 election to audit the Statement of Poll, known as the “Pink Sheet” of which many discrepancies between the EC and the Party’s figures were uncovered.

When queried by a participant on how to retool the research desk, Dr. Aheto was optimistic when he said “the good news is that the party hierarchy knows the critical role that research can play in the utmost survival of the party. They are aware of this and so should take steps to correct things”.

He said even though a few executives are committed towards that cause, “we need the whole group on board to drive this because without a concerted effort, we’ll only achieve little in this regard”.

The NDC lost the highly disputed 2020 elections. Many domestic and international observers have concluded that even though the voting process was fairly transparent, the counting and collation process in most centers were not credible enough. The party is therefore seeking to re-strategize for victory in the next general elections in 2024.
