Kenya’s leading mobile network operator, Safaricom has ended its first Fintech Innovation Week which focused on how the organization can co-create the future in technology as well deepen customer experience. The four-day packed event witnessed in attendance developers, startups, tech enthusiasts, and industry stakeholders.

The Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology, Joe Mucheru in his address during the event noted that the government has embraced technology by implementing policies that will create an enabling environment for innovation, adding that the government is more focused to be a digital-driven economy through the implementation of innovative programs.

“The Ministry has set up a Digital Literacy Program which has continued to provide technology in school so as to provide knowledge to learners,” stated Mucheru.

He sated that the Ministry of ICT is working with the office of the president to create a single digital platform that will enable businesses to prosper.

“The development of a digital government is a key factor to ensure that various companies can interface with the government for economic development,” said the CS.

 

Speaking at the event, Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa said the Fintech Innovation Week is meant to showcase what Safaricom can do for the future generation and mentioned that the project is tasked to transform Safaricom into a purpose-led company by centering its focus on all customers.

“Fintech will transform the lives of all people through a combination of technology and innovation,” said Ndegwa.
