Telecel Ghana secures 100% internet capacity
The two leading telcos – MTN and Telecel reported turned to the East and other sources to secure some capacity and restore service. It has been five days since the incident happened and Telecel is now reporting that it has finally secured 100% of the capacity, which means Telecel customers will soon begin to have pre-disruption service quality again.
This is contained in the latest circular from the recently launched telecom brand in the country.
Just days after Telecel rebranded Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Ghana and promised great customer experience with innovation across all offerings, the entire country suffered internet outage due to major damages to all the international subsea cables that provide data connectivity to Ghana.
The affected cables were ACE, WACS, MainOne and SAT-3, all of which run from the west through the coast of Africa to Capetown in South Africa.
Customers of all three telcos in Ghana – MTN, Telecel and AT Ghana were affected. But service was quickly restored on AT Ghana because they had backup capacity from another cable – WIOCC coming from the East.

The company is also assuring customers that those who lost their unused bundles during the disruption period are being refunded.
The circular from Telecel to customers said “We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period. Please be assured that our team has started work on refunds of expired bundles and related issues.”
