The Agbogbomefia of Asogli in the Volta Region, Togbe Afede XIV, has reportedly turned down an amount of Ghc365, 000 that the Akufo-Addo government paid to him as ex-gratia for serving as a member of the council of state for four years.
The rejection was revealed by US-based Ghanaian journalist, Kevin Taylor in a broadcast on his Loud Silence media’s hit podcast, “With All Due Respect.”
Mr. Taylor has since provided a copy of a Bank of Ghana cheque deposit slip as evidence.
The cheque is dated 4 – 03 -2022 and bears the number “0019107.”
The respected Togbe is said to have turned the money down because he felt it was unconscionable to receive it at a time that the economy is downhill and the average Ghanaian is going through serious hardships.
The Akufo-Addo government has been splurging money in the wake of warnings that the economy may totter into a collapse.
