Trust Jesus Foundation donates to Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital

Trust Jesus foundation is a mental health organization that seeks to provide relief to people with mental illness through benevolence. Since it’s establishment in 2019, it has visited all the psychiatric institutions in the country.

Trust Jesus foundation, a non governmental organization has presented food, bottled water and drinks to in-patients of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. This gesture forms part of the foundation’s mission of providing relief to mentally challenged patients through benevolence.

Presenting the items, the President of the foundation, Madam Mary Wormenor Quaicoe said as an organization all that they seek to achieve is to put smiles on the faces of the in-patients so they can also feel the sense of belonging.

Receiving the items, the Deputy director of Nursing Services at Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, Madam Grace Korkor Tettey said the donation will go a long way to put smiles on the faces of the in-patients.

“ With psychiatric people don’t really cherish. People bring their relatives here they don’t come back. You know these patients they need food , they need soap, they need dress to wear so when people come to donate things we are grateful” she said.

According to her,some relatives abandon their clients at a point in time especially when they have been discharged.

She however, used the occasion to appeal to patient relatives to visit their clients once in a while since it’s contribute to the healing process. Madam Grace Tetteh also used the occasion to call on government to pay more attention to the mental health sector.She stated that when budget comes to them, they should pay attention to it.

In an interview with the president of the foundation, Madam Mary Wormenor Quaicoe, called for the inclusion of mental treatment on the National Health Insurance Scheme. According to her, this will take away undue pressure from relatives of mental patients.

“ The cost of treatment is expensive and not all patient relatives can afford “ she said

“If nothing is done about this, the chances of people with mental illness roaming the streets will be high” she stressed

In all, six wards were visited by the foundation. Each patient received A pack of Jollof rice, fried chicken, fried plantain, a bottle of water and a bottle of drink.

About 200 meals were distributed to in-patients as well as staff on duty.
According to the management of the foundation, close to 30.000.00 was spent on this year’s outreach.

Before the outreach, the organization organized a Bible and Mental health quiz at Pantang Hospital as part of their activities. The essence of the quiz is to inculcate the habit of reading the Bible and creating mental health awareness among people. At the end of the quiz, Priscilla Pokuaa emerged winner and took away a plaque, exercise books, pens and an undisclosed amount of money.
