Beyond the court, the rivalry is evident as fans, alumni, and students fervently support their respective teams and flaunt their school colors.

The conversation has been sparked by the University of Ghana (UG) vs. Accra Technical University (ATU) highly anticipated match at the 2023 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF), not only on the two (2) campuses but also among sports enthusiasts.

In the sporting world, basketball rivalries can elicit a great deal of fervour and fury. When two institutions are rivals, there’s usually an added element of excitement to the games since supporters look forward to seeing each other. These games typically hold particular meaning for the players as well as the spectators, regardless of whether they are part of an old or new rivalry.

There is a tangible buzz among the kids, teachers, and spectators alike, and the atmosphere is packed with excitement. The University of Ghana (UG) and Accra Technical University (ATU) are bitter rivals, and their next game on the court looks to be one of the greatest ever.

Over the past several weeks, Accra Technical University’s Coach Eric Ofori, the Technical Director, has taken a strong jab at University of Ghana Coach Eric Ankamah, branding UG as an unbeatable opponent. I heard University of Ghana had an absolute blast defeating every team they faced at the UPAC Basketball Championship while I was gone at ATU. He stated, “They know we will beat them because their nemesis is back.”

Basketball is about more than just what occurs on game day, according to coach Eric Ofori. It’s time to put an end to the university’s excessive enjoyment. It’s time to even the scores since they have won three (3) of the five (5) meetings.

Coach Eric Ankamah of the University of Ghana responded sharply, implying that we are familiar with Accra Technical University. They can yell and cry out, just like our spouses, but they already know how it will end. We can’t wait till Sunday, December 17th, to finally quiet them.
