We have not given any Burma Camp Lands to the La Traditional Council – GAF

Describing the claims by the La Traditional Council as ‘premature,’ the statement noted that such actions could negatively impact on the relations between GAF and the council.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports that the government has released 114 acres of Burma Camp Lands to the La Traditional Council for development.

It has therefore, warned the public to stay away from all GAF lands, particularly the Burma Camp lands.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued in Accra yesterday by Naval Captain M. A Larbi of the Public Relations Directorate of GAF.

It said the GAF was aware that claim by the La Traditional Council was made during a ceremony performed to signify the reclamation of the said land.

Currently, the statement said, there was ongoing discussions by a committee set up by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to deliberate and recommend possible measures to resolve the land issue.

However, it noted that, GAF had not received any directives from the Ministry of Defence, which was the supervising Ministry of GAF, directing that the land should be released to the La Traditional Council.

Additionally, the statement added that, no government agency had directed the GAF to release any land to any Traditional Authority.

It stated that the Burma Camp lands remained a critical need of the Ghana Armed Forces for the preservation of state security.

Describing the claims by the La Traditional Council as ‘premature,’ the statement noted that such actions could negatively impact on the relations between GAF and the council.

“Whereas the Ghana Armed Forces looks forward to a peaceful resolution of the matter through the committee’s work by government, it takes exception to the premature announcement made by the La Traditional Council as it has the potency of breaching the existing cordial relations between the Ghana Armed Forces and the La Traditional Council,” it stated.

The statement assured all personnel of Ghana Armed Forces of the High Command’s efforts and resolve to protect the interest of GAF at all times.
