When the Servant is behaving like a Master: Re: Ghana Card and Sim Re-registration

The government must show that it can get things done without making it's citizens suffer. The government must understand that it is a servant and not a Master.

When you introduce anything new the reasonable thing you do as a government is to take time to get everyone on board. This is a sign that the government respects it’s citizens.

Why the rush to force everyone to get the card within a short time? Is it not the people’s money that is being used to print the cards? Are those in government more important than the citizens?

We voted for them so they take their powers from us and we can take it away from them anytime. They should show respect to the citizens and allow all registration processes to be done with longer periods in mind. If they don’t have the time then they should stop it. It takes time to get some of these things done.

A responsible citizen plans his life, some even plan for up to 6 months ahead and until there’s an emergency you cannot even change it.

So you cannot just introduce a policy of registration and force it down the throat of your people. That’s a sign of disrespect to the citizen.

These deadlines are needless and an unnecessary pressure on the citizen who has to go find a way to eat in this broken economy brought about by this same government.

The Ghana card has come to stay so there’s no rush. We should show that we are intelligent enough to get things done in a manner that shows we are respectful people and understand that anything that requires registration should be an ongoing process and not a short period event which forces people to queue when they don’t even know how they are going to eat for the day and they need to go out there to fight to fend for themselves.

I heard the Minister of communication claiming that the sim reregistration would assist in avoiding Momo fraud and whilst that makes sense is she saying because someone cannot protect his own money on his own personal Momo account I should go and queue to reregister my Sim? When I can do it anytime?

The government must show that it can get things done without making it’s citizens suffer. The government must understand that it is a servant and not a Master.

If the government wants to change anything it must be done by giving the citizens time to go through the process and should ensure that the process the people would go through is as comfortable as it can be.

I have witnessed over the years how terrible our government treats the citizens when there has to be any form of registration.

People would queue for days standing in the scorching sun including mother’s, old people, pregnant women, etc all because of needless deadlines. Why do we do this to our own people.

Such needless suffering is the only way registration can be done in this country?

I don’t know if it is absolute disrespect to the citizen that makes the government and it’s institutions behave that way or whether it is the people that are so ignorant about their rights which allows the insensitive government to take undue advantage of them. Either way that should not be happening.

It’s like the comfort of the people is not important, not relevant and not necessary. The government would issue very short deadliness and force the citizen to go through hell just to go through a registration process. This needs to stop.

I can tell this happens also because the average citizen doesn’t realize that he’s a Master and the government his servant. If the majority of the people knew this fact about governance, there would be a different expectation in terms of how the citizen relates to the government and that would also inform the government on how it also relates to the people.

But because majority are so ignorant about their rights as a people the insensitive government takes advantage of their ignorance and treats the citizens anyhow.

A typical example of how ignorance interplay in the relationship between our government and the people is depicted in a situation where a Minister visits a Chief.

The Chief is the leader of the people and his number one duty is to seek and protect the interest of his people but out of ignorance, the Chief who gets a visit from the Minister feels so good he feels he’s now a big chief to have received a visit from the Minister when in actual fact that Minister is his servant and for failing to improve the lot of his people through good policies the Chief has a duty to reprimand the Minister.

Imagine if all the Chiefs in Ghana knew their rights, their powers and were reprimanding the President and the Ministers whenever they come around?

This same thing applies to the Sheik or the Pastor who sees himself as God’s servant and his duty is to ensure that the God’s children he superintendents have a better life so anytime he gets a visit from a Minister he reprimands him from stealing the people’s resources and impoverishing God’s children.

Imagine if all of our Sheiks and Pastors were doing this for us. Won’t we be having a better life by now?

Ignorance is indeed a disease and knowledge indeed is power. My little advise to the citizen out there is that learn the law, know your rights, and use it to improve your life because a knowledgeable citizen insist on his rights and gets better treated.

You are a Master and NOT a servant so don’t allow yourself to be mistreated by anyone including government agencies.

Anyone who works in a government agency is a servant so DON’T allow anyone of them to treat you anyhow.
