‘Who is Maurice Ampaw, we don’t know him, we didn’t send him’ – NPP to Manhyia
The Former Palace Drummer, Justin Koduah, made these statements in response to the Traditional Council’s directive when he appeared before them, seeking additional time to produce the self-proclaimed governor of the Ashanti Region.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially disowned Maurice Ampaw, with Justin Frimpong Koduah, the General Secretary of the party, categorically stating, ‘We don’t know him; we didn’t send him’.
The disavowal comes amid a directive from the Elders and Council of the Ashanti kingdom, urging the NPP to produce Bernard Antwi Bosiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, in response to claims leveled against him.
Justin Frimpong Koduah assured the Elders and Council that the NPP would present Chairman Wontumi, who serves as the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, as prescribed. However, he emphasized the party’s inability to produce Maurice Ampaw, asserting that the party neither knows him nor has assigned him to make the alleged statements.

The incident leading to these developments was reported to involve Antwi-Bediako addressing a party chieftain in a manner that led to him crossing his boundaries during the vetting of Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh.
Chairman Wontumi is currently standing trial in Manyhia for attempting to equate himself to the occupant of the Golden Stool. The case has been adjourned to Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11 AM for the NPP to produce Chairman Wontumi. The proceedings were presided over by Bantamahene.
