...As Rev. Dr. Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah is fired

A Deputy Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in-charge of Support Services – Madam Julie Essiam, is now the new Commissioner General of the national tax collecting arm of the Ministry of Fiance. She replaces Rev. Dr. Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah who is reported to have been fired.

Our deep-throat source said the Board Chairman of the GRA, Dr. Tony Oteng Gyasi has tendered in his resignation because of his strong opposition to the appointment of Madam Julie Essiam, who some have alleged is favored by former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

We have gathered that some staff of the GRA who have become aware of the changes at the top, have expressed their strong opposition to the idea of promoting Madam Julie Essiam to the top due to her strictness and principled style of management and leadership style.

It is expected that they would be mounting strong protest to announce their disagreement with the appointment through various means.

It would be recalled that early this year the GRA boss Rev. Dr. Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah was under fire for staying in office two years after passing the compulsory retirement age without a contract.

Only last week, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was on the case of the GRA boss for going after corporate tax defaulters publicly.

The chairman of the Board as well as the chief executive officer of the Authority called the Commissioner-General are appointed by the President of the Republic of Ghana
