Coalition of Nat’l Youth Organizers condemns ‘reckless’ statement by NDC Suame Youth Organizer

“Such comments are not only reckless but treacherous which portrays an intention to commit crime,”“We want to take this opportunity to educate the Ghanaian Youth that Ghana is a democracy-practicing country and not Demo-crazy. Democracy is where politicians understand and accept that it is the people who will decide to engage our service or other wise, because power belongs to the people in Democracy. Demo-Crazy is where politicians behave that they must capture power at all cost, thus with or without the consent of the people.

The Coalition of National Youth Organisers has condemned in no uncertain terms comments made by the Suame Constituency Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the effect that his party will kill in order to win power in next year’s elections.

Razak Koampa Avoliya made the comments in an interview on Oyerepa FM in the Ashanti Region.

The NDC has since dissociated from the comments, saying its Constituency Youth Organiser misspoke during the interview.

Weighing into the brouhaha, the Coalition of National Youth Organisers in a statement on Wednesday, February 8 said the comments were borne out of “ignorance” and “unnecessary bravado”.

“Such comments are not only reckless but treacherous which portrays an intention to commit crime,” the statement signed by General Secretary of the Coalition Comrade Osei Kofi Acquah, who is also the Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), said.

“We want to take this opportunity to educate the Ghanaian Youth that Ghana is a democracy-practicing country and not Demo-crazy. Democracy is where politicians understand and accept that it is the people who will decide to engage our service or other wise, because power belongs to the people in Democracy. Demo-Crazy is where politicians behave that they must capture power at all cost, thus with or without the consent of the people.

“This act of Demo-Crazy leads to threats, fabrication of lies, pull him down attitude, violence and unecessary criticism of any sitting government, all in the view of capturing power.”

The Coalition, therefore, called on the NDC, particularly its Youth Wing, to condemn the comments.

It also asked the Ghana Police Service “to immediately expedite action on this nation-wrecking statement by the Youth Organizer”.

“We are also drawing the attention of the National Peace Council and the NCCE to extend their roundtable discussions and dialogue programs on peace and democratic stability to the constituencies.

The Coalition also wants the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Service and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to look into the political vigilante phenomenon as it believes it is still existent.
