I’ll never accept a deputy ministerial appointment; I regret being a deputy at Railways Dev’t – Appiah-Kubi

“I will never accept the position of deputy minister again. I made a mistake of accepting such a position and I will not do that again. I didn’t get the opportunity to exhibit my talent”

Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency and a former deputy minister for Railway Development, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi says he has regretted that he accepted the appointment as a deputy minister for Railways Development.

He told Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show on Wednesday 8 February 2023 that he will never accept the position of deputy minister again with the benefit of hindsight of how that position limits the scope and performance of the appointee.

“I will never accept the position of deputy minister again. I made a mistake of accepting such a position and I will not do that again. I didn’t get the opportunity to exhibit my talent” he revealed.

The legislator who was also once the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones authority stated that even though he has not been appointed as minister of trade, he will avail himself to do anything to support government initiatives for better change for the sake of Ghana.

His statement comes on the back of the announcement of a ministerial reshuffle on the floor of parliament by the Speaker on Tuesday 7 February 2023.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Adansi Asokwa MP KT Hammond as Minister for Trade pending approval by Parliament.

Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong is heading the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Former Director-General (DG) of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) Stephen Asamoah Boateng (Asa B) is heading to Chieftaincy whereas Stephen Amoah, Nhyiaeso MP is now Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry.

Also, Dr. Mohammed Amin Anta is now Minister of State for Finance replacing Charles Adu Boahen, and Hebert Krapah, who was Deputy Minister at the Trade Ministry has been moved to the Energy Ministry as Deputy Minister-designate.

A lot of Ghanaians have expressed their disappointment at the reshuffle as was announced. Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi also told 3FM Sunrise that he wished some of the ministries had been merged such as; Transport and Railways Development, and Agriculture and AquaCulture ministries
