Akufo-Addo has breached Ghana’s constitution – NDC MPs to begin impeachment processes in Parliament soon
He highlighted the NDC’s discontent with the president’s refusal to assent to the anti-gay bill recently passed by Parliament. Their concerns were fueled by a letter from the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, instructing Parliament to halt its attempts to transmit the bill for presidential action.
The Minority in Parliament has accused President Akufo-Addo of breaching portions of the 1992 constitution.
According to the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the NDC MPs will in the coming days begin impeachment proceedings against the President in parliament.
The Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP also added that the President’s total disregard for the Ghanaian constitution has led to total hardships in the country.
“The NDC Minority is ready to protect the sanctity of the constitution of the republic of Ghana, and we stand with the Speaker of Parliament in this. Let the president of Ghana and his government be aware that where this country is going is strange under his watch and the NDC Minority will not countenance it.
“But I want to urge that it is obvious that His Excellency the president has breached the constitution and we’ll advise ourselves. In the coming days, he’s going to be surprised that we’ll begin impeachment proceedings….,” he stated.

In what appears to be a retaliatory move, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has frozen the approval process for some ministerial and deputy ministerial nominees. Bagbin attributed this decision to a commitment to upholding the rule of law, indicating that the House would wait for the Supreme Court’s ruling on an application for interlocutory injunction filed by South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor before proceeding with the approval processes of the appointments.
