Akwatia: NPP Parliamentary Aspirant file for Injunction against Primaries
The plaintiff (Obeng Danquah Castro) in an earlier petition to the General Secretary of the party through his lawyers, Archer and Archer & Co cited unfair treatment by the party, leading to his inability to participate in the vetting of aspirants for the upcoming primaries.
An aspirant in the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern region, Obeng Danquah Castro is praying the High Court in Koforidua to place an order of Interlocutory Injunction on the primaries in that constituency.
Per the motion of the injunction dated November 11, 2023, and copied to Ghananewsonline.com.gh, the plaintiff/applicant prayed the court to restrain the defendants/respondents including the General Secretary of the NPP, the National Chairman, the Director of Elections and the Electoral Commission (EC), their workmen, servants, agents or assigns from carrying out internal party parliamentary primaries of the NPP in the Akwatia Constituency, “pending the determination of the suit in a supporting affidavit and for such further or other order(s) as the court may deem it.”

Part of the petition made available to Ghananewsonline.com.gh read: “Our client informed us that he picked nomination forms to contest as the party’s (NPP) candidate for the “orphaned constituency.”
“On the 10th day of November, 2023, the NPP issued a press release on the conduct of parliamentary primaries and indicated per the 2nd paragraph that the decision to conduct an extraordinary constituency delegates conference on Saturday the 20th day of December, 2023, was taken by the party at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Friday, November, 10, 2023.
“Our client informs us that without proper communication to him as to the exact date for the vetting of aspirants at the Akwatia Constituency, save the press release, he was in Accra when Sammy Awuku, Managing Director (MD) for the National Lottery Authority (NLA) informed him that aspirants for the Akwatia Constituency were being vetted on that day, after he (Sammy Awuku) called the party’s National Organizer who confirmed same,” the petition stated.
The petition further stated: “Upon arming himself with the information, he quickly rushed out of Accra to Koforidua on the 14th day of November, 2023, to be vetted, only to be told that the vetting was over.
Being dissatisfied with the turn of events, he petitioned the National Chairman of the party on the 15th day of November, 2023, and copied the vetting committee chairman and the Eastern regional Chairman of the party and subsequently served all persons mentioned but did not receive any response from the chairman or any other person who was copied – We are therefore at the instance of our client writing to demand that he be treated fairly by allowing him to partake in the said Akwatia Constituency primaries since this is an internal party matter to prevent any legal suit, should the party decide to ignore this final letter to them,” the petition indicated.
