Akyem Abodom traders receive modern market
”I want to encourage my colleague chiefs across the country to at least initiate developmental projects in their respective communities so that they can demand support from the government and other agencies”.
Traders of Akyem Abodom, a farming community in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region, will heave a sigh of relief as the Ankobeahene of the town, Nana Sekyere Baffour Bamfo, has constructed a market for them.
The inhabitants are predominantly farmers, yet they lack a ready market to sell their farm produce.
The situation has retarded the socio-economic activities in the community for decades as the people are compelled to travel distance to sell for a living.
The chief has therefore constructed a modern market worth GH¢300,000 for the traders, who have been selling in an open place for years.
The market is made up of 42 stalls with ancillaries to enhance economic activities in the area by increasing business operations as well as linking the adjoining communities.
Nana Sekyere is optimistic that the market will help reduce abject poverty and create business opportunities for the teeming youth and traders in the area.
Nana Sekyere Baffour Bamfo, speaking to Onua TV during the handing over ceremony, charged other chiefs in various communities to emulate the gesture to augment government’s effort in developing the country.
”I want to encourage my colleague chiefs across the country to at least initiate developmental projects in their respective communities so that they can demand support from the government and other agencies”.
The Chief said “by doing so, I believe that it will compel the metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs) to work”.
Nana Sekyere Baffour Bamfo entreated the traditional leaders and stakeholders in the community to ensure the market is maintained to serve its purpose.
In a related development, Nana Sekyere Baffour Bamfo also enrolled 17 young girls who have the zeal to ensure meaningful life into apprenticeship to equip them with different job skills.
Some of them went into sewing, hair dressing and bakery.
Sewing machines, dryers and other equipment needed for their apprenticeships were presented to the young girls.
Nana Bamfo charged the youth to abstain from premarital sex to help minimize teenage pregnancy in the community.
He, however, urged parents to keenly monitor the young people so that they do not engage in activities that have the tendency of increasing their risk of pregnancy.
The Ankobeahene has thus pledged to initiate different programmes to help mitigate the people from abject poverty.
