Bodyguards of MP for Assin North threw me out of his office – Bailiff tells Court
The bailiff was ordered by the Supreme Court to serve court documents on the embattled MP who has failed to appear before the court despite numerous summons.
A court bailiff has narrated how bodyguards of the Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson assaulted him and threw him out of his office.
The bailiff was ordered by the Supreme Court to serve court documents on the embattled MP who has failed to appear before the court despite numerous summons.
The court subsequently tasked a bailiff to personally furnish the MP James Gyakye Quayson, with the court documents but according to reports he was thrown out of the legislator’s office by a bodyguard.
This was revealed by the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mathew Antiaye, who was asked to brief the Court on the matter.
On separate occasions, court officials at the Supreme Court and prosecutors at the High Court have pointed out their inability to find the MP to hand him court processes.
The recent one which took place on Thursday, February 3, 2022, saw prosecutors also informing an Accra High court today, of their inability to serve the MP with the summons.
The action at the Supreme Court is among other things, seeking to restrain the MP from carrying himself as an MP and performing Parliamentary duties.
In court today, the Supreme Court registrar said an attempt was made to serve the MP at an address he filed before the Cape Coast High Court as his private residence in his constituency, but a caretaker of the place informed the bailiff that the MP has travelled and had no idea when he will be returning.
On the botched attempted service in Parliament, the registrar said the bailiff met the MP but he declined service and tasked his bodyguard to throw the bailiff out of the office, which was carried out.
The case was then adjourned to March 1, after the lawyer for the plaintiff, Frank Davies said an application for substituted service will be moved at the Apex Court if court officials are still unable to serve Mr Quayson by the said date.
On the alleged assault of the Bailiff, the court asked that the registrar submits a report to the Chief Justice for investigation and appropriate action.
