Democratic Transformers Forum extends a Helping Hand to Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims in North and South Tongu Constituencies

In a remarkable display of compassion and unity, the Democratic Transformers Forum (DTF), a group of young professionals affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), embarked on a philanthropic mission last Sunday to provide much-needed aid to the victims affected by the regrettable Akosombo Dam spillage. With hearts filled with empathy, they distributed an array of essential items including bags of water, gallons of liquid soap, boxes of mosquito coils, packs of matchsticks, toilet rolls, and washing powder, among others.
The North Tongu and South Tongu constituencies, which have been significantly affected by the devastating spillage, received the generous donations from the members of the DTF. This act of selflessness is a testament to the unwavering commitment of these young professionals towards uplifting their community, especially during challenging times.
Understanding the urgent needs of the affected individuals, the members of the DTF also distributed an assortment of crucial supplies. Bags of water were provided to ensure that the victims consisting mostly of vulnerable women and children would have access to clean drinking water, which is vital for their well-being. Additionally, gallons of liquid soap were handed out, recognizing the importance of proper hygiene practices for improved health outcomes.
Keeping in mind the potential proliferation of mosquitoes in the aftermath of the spillage, members of the Forum included in their package boxes of mosquito coils to help protect the affected individuals from vector-borne diseases. Packs of matchsticks were also offered to facilitate the safe usage of these coils.
To promote sanitary conditions, members of the DTF ensured that toilet rolls were part of the donated items. Recognizing that cleanliness extends beyond personal hygiene, washing powder was included as well. This they believe will enable the victims of the spillage to effectively launder their clothes, to restore a sense of normalcy amidst the trying circumstances they currently find themselves in.
The combined efforts of the Democratic Transformers Forum and the values of the National Democratic Congress demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those adversely affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage. This humanitarian endeavor is a shining example of unity and compassion, showing that through collective action, individuals can bring about meaningful change.
A leading member of the Forum Theo Fugah remarked that “as a responsible forum with interest in the development of the Volta Region, we could not just sit and watch our people suffer this devastation. Though we believe that this whole spillage thing could have been managed better, the thing is that what would happen has already happened. The least we can do is to organize and lend our support, and that is why we are here.”
In the view of the Convener of DTF – Mr Ebenezer Potakey “As the people of North Tongu and South Tongu constituencies begin to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this environmental catastrophe, the outpouring of support from us is meant to serve as a glimmer of hope.”
